'I
am not an animal!
I am a human being!
I... am... a lady!'
After the success of their 2003 show The Wicker Woman, Population: 3 bring their comic talents to bear on another great yet obscure cult film you've probably never seen: David Lynch's The Elephant Man.
The Elephant Woman unfolds the extraordinary tale of the child born of an unholy union betwixt woman and elephant, the creature that became 'The Greatest Freak In The World!' But with stupid props and loads of jokes like in their other shows.
See Victorian London as you've never seen it before!
Witness incredible sights that will edify and astound!
Arouse your prurient interest with freakish spectacles!
Once
again under the direction of Peepolykus' David Sant,
the three members of Population: 3 bring you prostitutes, surgeons,
Oscar Wilfe, a hansom cab and a woman with a bag on her head, all through
the magic of theatre and changing costumes and their voice a bit.
The Elephant Woman ran at the 2004 Edinburgh Fringe Festival from 4th to 30th August at The Pleasance.
It then transfered to the New Ambassadors Theatre in London's West End as part of their Edinburgh Exported season.
'Comedy parodists of the first order whose day in the sun of
TV stardom is surely long overdue. A riot from start to finish... side-splittingly
funny'

'These are the most dazzling and self-assured unknown comedians
I’ve ever seen. The ‘unknown’ won’t last long.'
Lloyd Evans, The Spectator
'The funniest things I saw by a wide margin... classic review
stuff: a tiny cast, speedy costume changes, shambolic but beautifully
inventive props.'
Keith Miller, Times Literary Supplement
'Outrageous, infantile, yet irresistibly infectious... a spectacularly
silly jaunt which reveals itself as first-rate entertainment.'

'Population:3's show is a story of true love, tragedy and melodrama
told with a highly developed sense of silliness and some clever gags.'
